Fieldwork on the White Sea coast
Zimnegorsky Lighthouse Expedition
The main goal of the expedition was to help repair the lighthouse and improve the area around it and the weather station. I was part of a team of geographers and historians.
We also designed an eco-trail near the lighthouse and the Zimniye Gory cliffs, which give the Zimnegorsky lighthouse its name. In 1977, paleontologists found fossils of Vendian organisms here that lived about 600 million years ago.
The light is 126 metres above sea level, the highest in the northern seas.
